Adaptive Paddler Group Needs Equipment You Are No Longer Using

Several of our members are involved with the Northern MIichigan Adaptive Sports and Recreation Program’s local paddle group, which helps people with physical challenges participate in and enjoy our sport. They can always use paddling gear of all types. If you have some equipment that could use a new home, contact Ann Reichert at 941-0938. Thanks!

Thank You, Volunteers!

On behalf of Northern Michigan Adaptive Sports (NMAS), I would like to thank CCPAC members who volunteered to help with our summer adaptive sports paddles this past season. Also, thanks to CCPAC for donating four paddles to NMAS. This was a nice benefit to some of our paddlers

We had great weather, some new faces, and plenty of fun. People with disabilities like spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy and strokes to name a few, paddled like pros with the help of our volunteers. On the Cedar Hedge Lake paddle, we had around forty people on the water at once. What an amazing sight that was!

NMAS is an organization of people with physical disabilities, their friends and families, and volunteers. The goal of NMAS is to facilitate participation in recreational sports by physically disabled people. NMAS is affiliated with Munson HealthCare’s Vital Choice program.

We are looking forward to more paddling events next year, and are seeking the assistance of skilled paddlers. We will be holding informational and planning meetings in the spring. We will also have a pool session to review rescue strategies and familiarize volunteers in assisting disabled people to kayak safely.

Meeting and pool dates will be published in upcoming newsletters. Questions or suggestions can be directed to Karen @ 409-8758. Thanks!
