Based at Mount Prospect in Illinois, George Stephen Sr manufactured a new fashioned dome style grill out of half spheres that were designed to be welded together to make buoys. Not only did it work well but it looked new and exciting, and George could not produce them fast enough for all the orders that were coming in.
The grill may have started as a simple personal project for George, but it soon took hold of the Weber Brothers factory. A new barbeque division was started at Weber Brothers, and in the late 1950s George bought the entire factory and became the sole owner of what was now Weber-Stephen Products Co.
